On 26 September 2023, ECA led the Focus Group Discussion in Jakarta that presented initial thinking on the power sector elements of Indonesia’s next medium-term development plan (RPJMN 2025-29). ECA, together with Castlerock Asia and Neyen, is developing a White Paper to support the national planning agency (Bappenas) as it prepares this critical document.

The Focus Group Discussion reviewed the achievements of Indonesia’s power sector in recent years, notably meeting rapid demand growth and raising electrification to near-100%, the challenges faced in addressing the sector’s heavy reliance on coal power and, from this, a list of priority areas for the power sector component of RPJMN25. Particularly important are how to accelerate the deployment of mature renewables technologies, preparing for the introduction of new technologies such as CCS and green hydrogen, and ensuring that the required energy transition supports regional development.

The ECA-led consultant team is contracted by the Asian Development Bank under funding from the Australian Department for Foreign Affairs and Trade.
