Economic impact assessment for Lake Albert infrastructure services

May 21, 2015

ECA has signed a contract with the Lake Albert Infrastructure Services Limited to prepare an economic and social impact assessment of the proposed 52 MW dual or triple fuel gas power plant, powered primarily by associated gas by-products of the Uganda petroleum industry. The impetus for developing the power plant is to obviate the emissions associated with flaring (or worse, just venting) of the associated gas. However, the plant will not always operate on associated gas, as there will be periods when diesel or heavy fuel oil will be needed to supplement gas supplies. The net environmental savings relative to other options for electricity generation in Uganda will be evaluated during the study.
