Following the major crisis in Bulgaria’s power sector which was a prime factor in the collapse of the Government of Bulgaria in February 2013, ECA has been contracted by the World Bank at the request of the caretaker government, to review the power sector. The focus of ECA’s work is to diagnose the problems in the power sector. Key issues under review are the difficult financial situation of the power companies, the low electricity tariffs and the very high cost of the rapid expansion of the number of wind and photovoltaic power generators.
