ECA is supporting MJM Energy in a rapid assessment of alternative sites for a proposed LNG receiving terminal in Myanmar. The country faces severe shortfalls in domestic gas production relative to its rapidly growing demand driven by economic development and increasing electrification. ECA is also investigating the potential to redirect gas supplies currently exported to Thailand to Myanmar users under a swap arrangement. The assessment is being undertaken for the Ministry of Electricity and Energy with funding from the World Bank.
