This is a rapid desk-based study for DFID to review the evidence base around how the electricity sector stimulates growth and/or whether electricity supply and consumption simply responds to economic growth. ECA undertook a preliminary assessment of evidence relevant to less industrialised countries to inform future potential DFID research areas and donor interventions. The work also investigated the indirect relationship between electricity, growth and poverty/inequality.
